The Smokering are back and they have come to knock your socks off!!
Their latest album release “Morningstar” on Chill Om Records is a delicious musical cocktail of dark atmospheres, hopeful overtones and dreamy instrumentation that have their own life pulse and are timeless to any era. Your guides Ed & Jason put you in a proper mind state as they set the stage to everyone’s personal soundtrack…You Win Some, You Lose Some!
It’s real life with its ups and downs but clearly with an overall sense of loving being alive. Tracks such as “MN8” and “Black” define the darker side of the duo and score with atmospheric landscapes that remind you of acts such as Recoil and Massive Attack, with an added original twist. Other tracks such as “Fade” and “Morningstar” stand out with a jazzy feel that is perfect for those special times when all you want to do is shut the world out, put on introspective music, and let your mind go wandering through the trials and tribulations of life. “Purple Heart”, one of the most meditative tracks on the record, is an absolute recommendation and impresses the listener with clever arrangements, playful spheres and precise timing.
The whole LP’s timing is amazing and seems effortless going through all the dimensions and changes. The frequencies, modulations and instrumentation are well thought out as well as great drums, effects and tons of analog relationships are present everywhere, resulting in a wide, deep, full sound.
The Smokering stay true to their roots as seasoned hands take the helm once again on another trip down the rabbit hole.
“Morningstar” is an absolute “star” in its own way! Five stars for The Smokering!
